Urgent Call to Action
Protecting Sri Lanka’s Children
Child abuse in Sri Lanka is a national emergency. In 2023, over 9,600 children were victims of horrific acts – sexual violence, physical assault, neglect, child marriage, and more. In 2024, the crisis deepened with rising cases of abductions, trafficking, child labour, and cyberbullying.

The Harsh Reality
- 34% of reported cases involve sexual violence.
- Children aged 11 - 14 are the most vulnerable.
- Abuse happens in homes, schools, and institutions - often hidden, often unreported.

Our 3 Fundraising Campaigns
Prevention . Therapy. Reintegration.
Stopping Abuse Before It Starts
Prevention
LEADS works at the grassroots to:
- Raise awareness in communities
- Educate children, parents, teachers, grassroot level government stakeholders
- Advocate for stronger child protection laws and systems
Healing the Invisible Wounds
Therapy
Sri Lanka lacks a national system for child-focused therapy. Survivors are often sent to psychiatric units that offer medication – not healing.
LEADS bridges this gap by providing:
- Safe spaces - 3 Therapeutic Care Centres in the Western, Uva and Northern Provinces
- Counselling for child survivors of abuse
- Legal support
Rebuilding Lives with Dignity
Reintegration
Many survivors face institutionalisation, stigma, school dropouts, and poverty – with no clear path to recovery.
LEADS supports reintegration through:
- Family strengthening support and follow-up services
- Education, vocational training, and life skills
- Advocacy for inclusive schools and communities
